Readings of electronic electricity meters

Unlike mechanical counters, electronic ones are equipped with screens where the readings are immediately displayed, and not a board with rolling numbers. In addition to numbers, some devices can display other data, such as date and others. In practice, the data on the screen changes every few seconds; in the case of multi-zone devices, the data is displayed in sequence one after another.

To take readings from an electronic meter, you need to write off the data indicated on the screen or use the “enter” button, relevant for multi-phase meters, and scroll through, writing off the data that appears one by one. Usually they are separated by the mark: T1, T2, T3, etc. or TOTAL.

When transmitting electric meter data, you need to keep in mind that only whole readings of the device, up to the decimal point, are also transmitted.

Subtleties in retrieving data from the Mercury 200 meter

There are several varieties in the line of Mercury meters: single-tariff and multi-tariff. Single-tariff devices are designated 200, multi-tariff devices are designated depending on the number of available zones and the presence of a remote control: 200 01, 200 02, 200 03.

The type of device does not affect the process of taking readings; it is the same on all devices, the only difference is the waiting time for numbers to appear or the number of times the “enter” key is pressed.

In the Mercury 200 device, reflection begins with time, then date, and then tariffs by zone. The name of the tariff is displayed in the upper left corner, in accordance with the quantity of the device model you have installed: T1, T2, T3, T4 they appear in turn, at this stage the readings are recorded.

The two-tariff measuring device Mercury 200 is characterized by the appearance of a checksum behind all tariffs. Then all reflections are repeated cyclically.

The time it takes for the values to appear varies depending on your meter settings, the most common values being 5-10 seconds, a sufficient interval for data recording. If the automatically set time is not enough for you to record data, you can switch to manual mode by pressing the “enter” button, and for each new page, press “enter” again.

To make calculations for this electrical appliance, it is necessary to perform calculations for each zone, after which all readings are summed up - and the resulting amount is the initial amount to be paid.

Energy meters

Electricity consumption metering devices – Energy meters are divided into day and night.
The device can be two-tariff or multi-tariff. Recording of readings is absolutely identical to the previously discussed devices, the only difference is the name of the button for switching tariffs or manual entry: “PRSM”, which means viewing. Depending on the modification of your device model, there may be two or three such buttons. Electricity meter Energomera CE301

The only difference between this type of electrical measuring device is the reflection of the kilowatts expended when you press the button for each tariff zone separately. Otherwise, complete similarity.

Take readings from the Micron electricity meter

Such a device is characterized by the presence of only one button for viewing data. You need to wait for the “checkmarks” above “T1” and “R+” to appear on the device screen, this will be the reading for the first tariff.

By pressing again, we wait for the next “tick” “T2” and “R+” to appear, this will be the next reading for the day/night counter.

Saiman counters

A very common model nowadays are devices from the Saivan company. In many regions of the country, Saivan is installed when old measuring instruments are replaced free of charge. This is a fairly easy to use counter. It is not equipped with control buttons; you just need to wait for the desired parameter to appear on the screen and write it down for further transmission to the service company.

For quick and convenient orientation in an electrical measuring device from Saivan, we present the sequence of appearance of values: date – time – meter number – gear ratio (1600) – TOTAL for a single-tariff meter or T1, T2, TOTAL for dual-tariff day/nos devices.

In the payment document, indicate the value TOTAL or T1, T2, depending on the installed model; you must also transfer whole data without taking into account the numbers behind the comma.

Other counter functions

In addition to reflecting the consumed kilowatts of electricity, the Mercury 200 meter has the following functions:

  • determines the load power by pressing the “O” button, kW and tariff will appear on the screen,
  • The time is changed by pressing the “O” button again,
  • to clarify the date of data collection, the “O” button is pressed a third time,
  • the fourth time you press the button, the screen will display information reflecting historical electricity consumption data.

Meters with automatic data transfer

There are developed models for automatically transmitting readings of consumed electricity through specially dedicated channels to the service company. The installation process of such a device is more labor-intensive and financially expensive, but it frees the owner from the obligation to monthly transfer recorded data.

According to the standard

If an electric meter is not installed, the consumer pays for the supply of resources according to current standards. Standard indicators and tariffs are approved by local authorities, taking into account the costs of production and transmission of electrical energy, as well as the individual characteristics of the region that affect the cost of resources.

If the absence of an individual meter is explained by the impossibility of installing it for technical reasons, the calculation is performed using the following formula:

P = k × N × T, in which

  • P – monthly payment amount;
  • k – the number of officially registered residents in the specified living space;
  • N – consumption standards established in the region;
  • T – the value of the tariff that determines the cost of one kilowatt-hour.

If there are no technical reasons why it is impossible to install an electric meter, an increasing coefficient is additionally included in the formula in addition to the indicated multipliers. Its use is explained by the fact that the authorities are trying to interest owners in installing individual metering devices.

The number of residents is determined according to official registration data. But if, during the inspection, representatives of the management company identify additional persons in the specified living space, the payment amount will be calculated taking into account unregistered residents.

Calculation example

Let's consider an example of calculation for a family from Moscow consisting of 3 people. The two-room apartment is not equipped with an electric stove, and electrical energy is not used to heat the room.

The tariff established for these conditions is 5.47 rubles. for 1 kWh with a consumption rate of 56 kWh per person.

The amount is calculated using the above formula. After substituting the actual values, we get:

P = 3 × 56 × 5.47 = 918.96 rubles,

For a situation where installing a meter is not technically possible. Otherwise, the result must be further multiplied by 1.5. Then the payment will increase to 1378.44 rubles.

Technology for taking readings from three-phase measuring instruments

For three-phase meters, there are divisions into old-style devices, with which transformers and new generation devices with direct connection are used.

For new generation sensors, the data collection algorithm is similar to all the devices discussed above; you just need to wait for the readings to appear on the screen and rewrite them or press the scroll button until the desired values appear.

This is important to know: Calculate sick leave: online calculator

If the meter is connected to the network using transformer current, then the meter is of a different type or more power is allocated to it. In both cases, in order to read the meter data, you need to know what the transformation ratio is. To obtain a result on the actual consumed electricity, it is necessary to take the readings recorded by the device and multiply them by the transformation coefficient.

Depending on the agreement concluded with the service organization, it is possible that you do not need to make the calculation yourself, but only transfer data from the device, and the specialists themselves will calculate everything and issue the calculated item for payment.

Taking readings from a multi-tariff meter

Unlike a two-phase measuring device, a multi-tariff one has three indicators: T1, T2, T3 - peak, half-peak and night. The rest of the calculation and readings are carried out in the same way.

How to transmit electricity meter readings?

The principle of transmitting meter readings is approximately the same for all regions; there may be slight variations. So, on the main page of the company serving you, there will be a section for transmitting meter readings. If your meter does not transmit readings independently via a specially dedicated channel, then the information is relevant to you.

There are variations: you can either create a personal account on the energy sales website or directly transfer meters each time by entering the personal account of your property without logging into your personal account.

The days set for transmitting the readings of your measuring device may differ depending on the region of residence; most often, data reception is equated to the 20th of the month. There are different methods of transmission:

  • website or personal account on the energy sales website, where at any time convenient for you you can display the data of an electrical measuring device,
  • by calling the operator who is taking readings, the telephone numbers are indicated on the receipt,
  • personal visit to the office,
  • using the tear-off counterfoils on the payment receipt, they are dropped into collection boxes located around the city,
  • by sending SMS messages with a set template to the numbers specified in the receipt,
  • when paying receipts, indicating the readings in the established columns, if applicable for your service company.

Transmission of electric meter readings. How and why to transfer data from an electricity meter

Submitting electricity meter readings - who is obliged to do this?

The transmission of electricity meter readings for residents of apartment buildings and private residential buildings has ceased to be an obligation since the amendments to the “Rules for the provision of utility services to owners and users of premises in apartment buildings and residential buildings”, approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of May 6, 2011 No. 354, came into force. Since April 2013, the transfer of meter readings is only the right of the consumer, but not his obligation. This is mentioned in paragraphs. k1 clause 33 of these Rules.

At the same time, clause 34 of the Rules, which describes the responsibilities of the consumer, states that at least once every six months a citizen must allow representatives of the utility service provider (management organization or HOA) to monitor the transmitted electricity meter readings. Consequently, even if the consumer for some reason does not transmit the readings of the electric meter, the contractor’s representatives will come and take the readings.

Moreover, taking readings from metering devices (both communal and individual) is the responsibility of the utility service provider. The only difference is that the contractor must take readings from the common building meter monthly, and readings from individual meters (those installed in residents’ apartments) only at least once every six months.

Thus, the transmission of electricity meter readings has ceased to be a mandatory procedure for the consumer and has become his right. How will the cost of electricity be calculated in the next receipt if the consumer was unable to provide the electricity meter readings last month? The answer is all contained in those Rules. In this case, the cost of consumed electrical energy will be calculated based on the average electricity consumption for previous periods.

Why is it better to inform your electricity supplier of your readings than not?

However, even though it is no longer necessary by law to submit testimony, it is still necessary to transmit testimony for a number of reasons:

1. When determining general house needs, the readings of the common house meter and the readings of all individual metering devices are included in the calculation of the ODN for electricity. Consequently, if the consumer does not transmit the readings of his electricity meter, then the calculation of ODN will occur incorrectly. If the majority of the residents of the house do not submit electricity meter readings in a timely manner, then the line “electricity of common areas” will be formed incorrectly and it is possible that residents will have to pay for electricity to the same in a larger amount relative to the actual parameters.

2. If meter readings are not transmitted, as mentioned above, the volume of electricity consumed will be calculated based on the average monthly volume of electricity consumption. However, this procedure will be applied for no more than 6 months in a row. Starting from the 7th month of failure to provide readings, calculations are made using electricity consumption standards. Often, calculations based on standards are much less profitable than calculations based on actual readings.

So, in order not to overpay for electricity? It is better for the consumer to promptly transmit the electricity meter readings to the electricity supplier. What methods are provided for this in the law? The answer is below.

General methods of transmitting information and meter readings:

  • hand over the electricity meter readings in person to the service office of the utility provider or resource supplying organization;
  • take advantage of the possibility of remote transmission of information via the Internet or by e-mail (if the supplier provides such an opportunity)
  • dictate by telephone;
  • enter the meter readings when paying the receipt in the appropriate column;
  • through a mailbox for transmitting readings (if such a box is installed in your home).
